Banca means the “bench of the mine“ due to the copper forges. Up to 1874, Banca was called “the foundry“ because of its famous copper deposits. Over centuries, the working of the mines left an amazing blast furnace very well-preserved as well as several mine doors along the main road. The wonderful beech forest named “Haïra“ on the tops of Banca has fortunately resisted to the mines working. At the very top of the mountains, from the moutain pass of “Lindus“, you can have a beautiful view over Roncevaux.
