Urepel is a recent village located at the very end of the valley; only 135 years old, it was split from Les Aldudes with the building of a new church in 1843. The numerous sources in the mountains around give to the valley its main river called “Noureppe“ which becomes further “La Nive“. Every spring, we can see an original and old event called “marque de Sorogain“. It is an official ceremony for which both authorities from the two sides of the Pyrenees gather with a view to identifying the cattle before they go to the mountains. It comes from the history of the “Pays Quint“, small space of land between the valley and Navarre on which the land is spanish but the population is french.
